The Bradley Report - Summary
A department of health and ministry of justice publication detailing guidelines that are specific to the criminal justice system

Prisons vary in the way in which the functions of mental health and substance misuse interventions are divided between these respective departments. Therefore, these guidelines are intended to be used as a framework that can be adapted by individual establishments to provide co-ordinated services to this highly disadvantaged client group.

Expert paper: Dual Diagnosis of Mental Disorder and Substance Misuse
The National Programme on Forensic Mental Health R&D was established in April 1999.

It has built on the work of the R&D Programme set up as part of the High Security Psychiatric Services Commissioning Board, which was first established in September 1996.

The Programme’s remit is to develop the evidence base of mental health services for mentally disordered offenders in a range of NHS settings.

In April 2000 and early 2002 this group commissioned expert papers to be written.

Substance misusing clients with mental problem: A brief practitioner's guide for Criminal Justice Integrated Teams
This guide has been designed specifically for staff in Criminal Justice Integrated Teams (CJITs) but it may also be useful to other service providers. Staff in these services see many clients who have both substance misuse and mental health problems (also known as comorbidity or dual diagnosis). While it is not the core role of CJITs to manage or treat the mental health element of a clients co-occurring mental health problems, it is important to be able to recognise and refer clients with these problems to appropriate care and with the appropriate degree of urgency.
